Who has seen the "Heaven and Hell" tour? Black Sabbath?
I saw them last night in Australia, (Wollongong, N.S.W). Fantastic concert, the whole band was terrific, and I was really impressed how good Ronnie James Dio sings live. Holey moley, as much as Tony Iommi is my favourite guitarist, Geezer Butler plucks like a madman on the bass. He almost looks like he's string picking an acoustic guitar, such is his speed and finesse. In fact, after the concert, I overheard a couple of guys commenting on "that bass guitarist". You just have to see it to believe it.
The support band was this 5 piece called "Down". Is this short for down and out, down on luck, down in the gutter? Because that is what this band sounded like. Bloody terrible.
Anyhoo, who else has seen the Heaven and Hell tour? What did you think of it?
Yeah, I went to see it on the last show of their tour. It kicked some major ass. The whole band was really going at it that night. Dio was all over the stage, and even at his age he has one of the best voices ever. Tony Iommi also showed off why he is a guitar hero. But I agree with you, the rhythm section for this was amazing. I went with a friend of mine, who happens to be my bass teacher. After the show we were just talking about how fast Geezer Butler pulled off those lines. It looked like a hurricane over the strings, and sounded like one too.
It rained that night too, and the concert was outdoors, which accented the whole "Black Sabbath experience". And I still think that the the band used their "devil powers" to cause the rain. By far one of the best things I've ever seen/heard/felt.
